SAP Security policy is a collection of security policy features and their values. This procedure replaces the definition of behavior with profile parameters: once a security policy is assigned to a user master record, this determines the desired behavior; profile parameters are only relevant for those user master records for which no security policy has been assigned.
SAP Security Policy Characteristics
A security policy characteristic is always a component of a security policy. You can use security policy characteristics to define behavior with regard to:
Complexity of the passwords
Password Changes required
Password Expiration
Logon options and restrictions
Till now SAP Security Policies can be only controlled at the System level. SAP has introduced a new feature where by companies can define multiple SAP Security Policy and implement them based on the user. For example you may want to have different security policy for external 3 party vendors so that their password is complex and are required to change their passwords more frequently. This could also be applied to contractor or external consultants.
